Our journey begins at one of Cartagena's most iconic historical landmarks, The Convent of La Popa, established in 1607 by Father Agustino Fray Alonso de la Cruz Paredes. Situated atop Cerro de La Popa, this hill rises over 150 meters above sea level, offering an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the city.
Upon arrival at the convent, you'll enjoy a guided tour of the premises, which includes the church and cloister. Immerse yourself in the captivating Spanish colonial architecture and the rich, ancient tales that echo throughout the site.
Before departing for our next destination, take a moment to savor the view from the peak, capture stunning photos, and admire the picturesque landscape of the bay.
Our next stop is Fort San Felipe de Barajas, a formidable stone fortress constructed in the 17th century by the Spanish to safeguard the city from pirate and corsair invasions.
We'll explore the entire fortress, navigating its intricate system of tunnels, ramps, and corridors. Your guide will share enthralling stories of the battles and sieges witnessed by the fort.
We then head to the historic center of the city, where we will visit the Blas de Lezo Monument, a tribute to the Spanish admiral Blas de Lezo, who valiantly defended the city against a British attack in 1741 and stands as a symbol of Colombia's naval heritage.
In the historic center, we'll also stroll through the city's stunning streets, churches, and squares, culminating at Plaza de los Coches to admire the monument of Don Pedro de Heredia, the founder of Cartagena de Indias (1533). Your guide will recount the story of Cartagena's foundation and share captivating tales filled with legends and pirates.
We conclude our heroic tour in the Plaza de los Coches, a bustling square brimming with restaurants and shops where the city's diverse cultures come together.
Finally, after four hours of exploration, your guide will escort you back to your accommodation, marking the end of the tour.
